He's at least a little crazy. Regarding the title of this, he self-describes as a Democrat, but only because he opposes the NRA, free-market capitalism, and says that the Republican Party is inherently racist. He opposes nearly every major point of the Democratic Party that comes to mind...

Re: Democrat Columnist Laments Liberal Bias in Journalism

Mr Card nailed it on the bias of the news media. The attempts of those to change topics and make commits about his faith show how little they can attack the truth he states and try to attack the man. Is the the savage liberal agenda of the socialist left? Attack the man since you cant his ideas.

Re: Democrat Columnist Laments Liberal Bias in Journalism

Orson Scott Card is not just a columnist. I never said I was. I'm also not a Democrat, for what it's worth, but I can spot a fascist from a mile away.

two - Pro gun control and anti-free market capitalism are not strictly Democrat positions. Fascists are pro gun control, anti free market, anti homosexual, anti woman, pro nationalism, pro religion... Plenty of Democrats believe in the right to keep and bear arms as well. My wife is one of them.

Of course he's not going to own up to being a Fascist. He probably doesn't know what a NeoCon is. He's glommed onto three things that Democrats traditionally favor, and he believes that makes him a Democrat. It doesn't

Besides all that, I know I am not the person who gets to define what a democrat is. The party does that. I am, however, entitled to call it like I see it, and I call bullshit. Besides, I'm not going to let YOU define it.

The guy isn't a Democrat. You wouldn't let anyone else get away with self-applying a label if it didn't help your argument.

Re: Democrat Columnist Laments Liberal Bias in Journalism

No, what you're not getting is that you haven't been chosen as the person who gets to define a Democrat.

I would be surprised if even half of registered Democrats are on board for all things tenets of the party.

You can get insight into why Card identifies himself as a Democrat at http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

I've got to say, your attitude on whom gets to be branded a Democrat doesn't seem to be very tolerant and open minded.

Re: Democrat Columnist Laments Liberal Bias in Journalism

My comment wasn't meant to demonize Christians. My comment was to show that just because you call yourself something, doesn't mean that's what you are.

If you call yourself a Democrat, but all your opinions run counter to the Democrat agenda, you aren't a Democrat. If you call yourself a Republican, but everything you do and say goes against the ideals of the Republican party, then you aren't actually a Republican. McCain used to be called a RINO by Limbaugh and Hannity and others all the time...

What I'm saying, and what you're just not getting, is that Card can say he's any number of things, but his actions betray his claim.

Re: Democrat Columnist Laments Liberal Bias in Journalism

I know how to work the Google and I know the definition of liberalism.

RC was the one who brought up Christians not acting as Christians.

Irony of this talk of tolerance is the close minded attitudes on display here regarding Card.

> Side note, which party has a problem with legalizing online gambling?

Some politicians have a problem with it. Yes, Shawn, there are liberals who go to church, believe in God.

It's more about being open, tolerant of others, progress, reform, civil liberties. Do you think he's a racist? Simple yes or no.

It's this kind of thing, you moderates, and I don't know if you are or not, should denounce. Because crazy talk is not going to help in the polls, it just solidifies what's already solid in the first place. If we have differing opinions, we might debate those issues, you see it as attacking.

"Anybody that disagrees with you call them racist."

Not true. That's why you can't quote an instance where that's the case. Now I do call racist people racist. When someone says dumb things like Obama hates white people, even tho his mom and grandparents are white and then that's just a stupid thing to say or someone cracks a joke about Obama and spinners and rims, where a joke like that wouldn't have been made if he was white, yeah that's a little racist.

I've never called you one. I just think you're young, 18-25 and this is the first time ever you've gotten into politics. Because all I've seen from you is more sheep type stuff. Shawn posts something and you're just yeah, yeah, liberals, blah blah ..... Very lazy on your part because you don't even attempt to back up your points. Just do that once for me.

And I have asked questions before and you ran from them. First time I've posted with you and I asked a simple question, would you vote for Bush again if it was possible he could run for a 3rd term. You had a woman come in and had to stick for you.

Re: Democrat Columnist Laments Liberal Bias in Journalism

Stopped him from beating me up? Send me some toilet paper please since I'm shaking. The garbage you write just proves my point. No matter what anyone says or what they say you attack people for the sake of attacking. Such insecurity, what's up with that?

Why bother with links when you refuse tobelieve them and only believe in the garbage you read and hear and try to force on everyone else. Anybody that disagrees with you call them racist. I noticed reading your profile that you attack everyone who disagrees with you on any subject, not just politics. That's what I meant when I said you didn't play very well with the children in the sandbox when you were (is) a child, did you? Run away from the question big boy.

The comical thing is that you proudly take ownership of such stupidity when I did'nt even name you in the previous posts. Like I said, I won the bet.

I refuse to debate bullshit which is all you provide. In other words instead of grey matter between your ears, all you show everyone is the deep dark brown matter in your actions. What are you going to do, beat me up? You act like a whiney little kid!
By taking the bait, you did exactly what I knew you would do. That's called chumming and you took the line and sinker with it. You see, I realize there will be no positive conversations with you, so why bother when all you do is go on your little temper tandrums and get off the subject?

With that being said, you have a nice life, I'll see you in the next one.

But wait, I sense another little temper tandrum coming on. I guess I'm just going to have to ignore them even though we all know they won't stop.

Re: Democrat Columnist Laments Liberal Bias in Journalism

Well, it's pretty fair to say that Mormonism is pretty much antithetical to the ideals of the Democratic party. I also believe that it's generally a fundamentalist religion. I could get into the more controversial aspects of it, but a quick google search can do more than I can in this small space.

But really, it has everything to do with the fact that the original article is on a LDS (or Mormon, if you aren't familiar with the nomenclature) oriented website. Theocrats don't want liberal bias, obviously... and anything that isn't put forth with their particular world view in mind is biased to them.

Bias in the media needs to be fixed, but until they fix it on BOTH sides, I'll stick to getting my news and information from the 'net. Regardless of what the "traditional media" says about the veracity of information on the internet, I find that it is a great amalgam of all political and social voices, as long as you don't stick to the same sites over and over, which only share your views.

I think that's the main problem we have regarding the media in this country... everyone watches the networks that they already agree with, and this simply reinforces their beliefs, instead of making them think about the issues and coming up with answers on their own. I know fans of Fox News, and they don't get their opinions from Fox, they already have those opinions. They get VALIDATION from Fox, even if their information is wrong. It's not hard to make people believe lies if you're telling them the lies along with what they already believe to be true.

Re: Democrat Columnist Laments Liberal Bias in Journalism

Read what he posted again, a few times. He layed it out pretty well and - "80 to 90 percent of Mormons voted for Republican presidential candidates in the last few elections"

The guy is not a democrat. What's funny is, I can post up a whole list of Republicans, with a trail of being Republican abandoning the McCain/Palin ticket, questioning it. You can't do that for Democrats. And as this election get closer, you're going to see a lot more infighting, many more Republicans distaning themselves from either McCain or Palin.

Re: Democrat Columnist Laments Liberal Bias in Journalism

Actually Rick, I was the guy that stepped in and stopped the bully from beating you up.
