  Original birth certificates all over the planet are filled in by the parties involved with handwriting. In some countries and states people can obtain photocopies (or in the old days they obtained 'photostats') of the actual certificate, but a much more convenient and cheaper document is an "Extract" of a birth (or other) certificate. That is what Obama's certificate is - an extract, and it was produced on 6th June, 2007 in Hawaii by the Health Department and it was "certified" by the Registrar as being a faithful record of what the original certificate contained (in part). Hawaii does not supply copies of the original birth certificates.
  
  The seal and the Registrar's certification of authenticity on the back of Obama's document can be seen by anyone who has the graphics program 'Photoshop' by following these simple instructions in both of Obama's JPEG's (the 72ppi version on the Smears site and the 300 ppi version on Kos's site).
  
  In Photoshop go -->
  Menu/Image/Adjustments/Levels, then grab
  the left slider which is directly *under the graph*
  and slide it all the way across to the right.
  
  The seal is above the date and the registrar's
  rubber stamp and signature is below the date
  almost touching the border.
  
  There are more sophisticated ways of seeing the seal and the Registrar's certification via Photoshop, but the above routine will only take 20 seconds after the image is loaded. One needs to have seen a good copy of the seal and certification to know what to look for.

  If that's the case, and it has the same data, why not release it and put this to rest?

  I would imagine that he (or indeed most people) would think that it's none of our business. I mean look what's happened already when after DID produce an image of his certified document.
  
  The doubters don't seem to realise that Obama wouldn't have a special passport that requires the utmost scrutiny of his background if the authorities were not dead certain of his birth place. Besides that, everyone is completely overlooking the fact that if Obama lied about his entitlement to stand as a nominee AND he raised money for it - he would be clearly guilty of grand larceny and considerable jail time if it was found out and everyone's money was wasted.

  I disagree. I think there should be transparency. People have questions about his mother's residency at the time and whether is birth name was different than his name now.

  No, the citizens are only entitled to have the law observed - not complete or unending transparency. Obama's mother was obviously a resident of Hawaii because she had the baby there - and the Registrar has in effect certified that she was because of that fact.
  
  His mother was also a resident of Hawaii on 2nd February 1961 because she was married to Obama's father at Maui on that date, despite the scathing letter that Obama's grandfather (to be) wrote objecting to the marriage.
  
  I don't know if name changes are allowed to be used in birth record extracts, but even if they were, Obama has never used any other names besides on official forms besides the three that are showing on the birth extract. (His father's name)..

  Please forgive me for jumping into the fray here, but after reading your comments I feel compelled to do so.
  
  You stated that that “citizens are only entitled to have the law observed - not complete or unending transparency”. Under normal circumstances, I might agree, but I can’t in this instance.
  
  The key point that I believe you are missing is that the Obama campaign created this dilemma on it’s own by posting an image of a “certificate of live birth” that appears to be missing key elements required of a COLB, but which the Obama people claim is valid. You mentioned that there is evidence of a seal and signature. Can you read whose name the signature belongs to? Can you clearly make the seal? Can you see a man on the moon if you stare long enough?
  
  Additionally, there is compelling evidence that the document may have been manipulated by a former DHS employee. Since there is now a cloud over the document Obama posted, it raises the question of possible fraud. And given that it was supposedly Obama’s intent to “fight the smears”; one would think that he’d want to nip this in the bud by instructing the state of Hawaii to release a “signed and sealed” copy to respected news organizations. But so far, he’s not doing that. There is a word for his actions: stonewalling. And people that stonewall normally have good reason to do so: they’re hiding something.
  
  So what do we have instead? We’ve got people analyzing both the Kos image and the one on Obama’s own site looking for the “missing signature and seal” as though they were studying the Zapruder film of the JFK assassination. This is absurd. The very fact that Mr. Obama injected this suspect image as authentic morally requires him to “fix the problem” by producing the real one that is visibly signed and certified. The tenor of this discussion is going to increase and more people are going to insist that Mr. Obama release an authenticated document. If Mr. Obama truly wants to “fight the smears”, then he will need to become transparent on this issue, ASAP.

  In any case the date stamp is clearly visible - and we know that the authorities in Hawaii do not release birth records unless they are accurate.

  [Ray]: There's no evidence like that at all. The only evidence we have is that Kos asked the Obama campaign people for an image of the birth record and they gave it to him. We also have evidence that Jay did a quick amateurish job of making up a semi-blank birth record form. Anyone who knows a lot about high-end graphics (as I do) knows that a REAL "master copy" is actually sharp - very sharp indeed, with no fuzziness at all. If you want to see what SHARP really is for that birth record document I can show you in a few minutes. Jay's job was actually absolute crap, but that's not surprising because it was only a joke - and marked as such.

  As a matter of interest, I still hope to see Hillary get in, but after following Obama's whole history (due to this birth record saga) I'm starting to like the guy and see how he understands how people think far more than normal. Sure, he's been flip-flopping, but if that's what it takes to win, who cares. It's better than the old political style of saying nothing most of the time.
  
  I tell ya what if he gets in he's got a lot of big changes in mind. Look how he keep challenging everyone and every thing - from the flag pin to, to not considering Hillary and even slamming his own grandmother for her less than reasonable stance in relation to race issues. So telling a small bunch of bloggers (who are all plain wrong) to jump in the lake is no biggie for him.

Why is the presidential candidate who claims to be religiously inclusive is treating the word "Muslim" as an insult? Apparently, it is OK for Mr. Obama to be associated with terrorists like William Ayers or racists like Jeremiah Wright, but God forbid somebody would call him a Muslim! No, he won't stand for that kind of smear! We admit that most terrorists are Muslims, but most Muslims are not terrorists and the statement on Mr. Obama's website is insulting to hundreds of millions of people.
  
  How could a man who discards his family heritage in favor of political expediency be even considered for presidency of the United States? Where are all the so-called "Islamic civil rights groups" like CAIR, MPAC, ISNA, MAS, etc. who are quick to defend every Islamic terrorist, but are silent when Muslims in general are being denigrated? Would Mr. Obama have the same reaction if someone claimed that he was raised as a Jew? We sincerely doubt that.

  I obtained a copy of my New York City "Certification of Birth" last year. It is an extract, as originals are no longer issued in New York City. My name was changed back in 1965 and the certificate cotains my changed name with no referance to my birth name. It contains the following:

  Date Issued
  Name
  Sex
  Mother's Maiden Name
  Father's Name
  Doc. No.
  
  It's laser printed on a form similar to Obama's.
  
  There's a lot of misinformation out there to the effect that certifications are not accepted as they are not copies of the originals with all the information. Tell this to the State Department, which issued me a passport upon my presenting them with this certificate along with my drivers license.
  
  Obama's going to be President. Live with it.

Anyone wanting to replace their bc is going to receive a certified extract, which has all the legal weight necessary to get you a passport, inter alia. For all those folks who think Barack is a fake--I hope you're afraid. I hope you fear socialism and anything else you heard during the campaign. I hope you dislike his middle name as well. Because, you no doubt are the voters that brought us Bush for the last eight years. To describe my feelings towards Bush as fear would be an understatement. Our turn to run the country.   If Obama's for real about being truthfull, he should have shown his certificate before the campain started. I doubt he's even a citizen when it takes him this long to come up with a certificate. Why have a president who isn't going to be truthfull from the begining? If he's lying about this what else is he gonna lie about to the Americans? Who's really gonna run this country?

  For the BHO II Hawaiian Aug 4 1961 COLB to be accurate the following improbable events needed to occur:
  
  1 month after starting classes, Stanley Ann Dunham, Barack’s mom, at age 17, got pregnant by the only black African man on the entire chain of Hawaiian islands.
  2 months after getting pregnant, she drops out of college.
  3 months after getting pregnant, she marries BHO Sr.
  10 months after her first day at the U of HI, she delivers BHO II and immediately leaves her parents, her new husband, and her home, to fly alone with a newborn 2800 miles to Seattle to start college at the U of W.
  Stanley Ann Dunham does not return to Hawaii until AFTER BHO Sr left the islands for Harvard.
  
  This is an implausible series of events made even more nefarious because Obama II in his 2 bio books never mentions his mom left Hawaii when she was married to BHO Sr, nor does he mention she was in Washington State during this time.
  
  Barack’s sister was born in Indonesia, and has a COLB from Hawaii like Obama II. She is NOT a “Natural Born Citizen” of the USA as required by the Constitution to become president…and Obama probably isn’t either.

  I was born in Hawaii prior to Mr. Obama's purported date. I have a full certified copy of live birth, with raised embossed stamp from the Dept of Health, Territory of Hawaii. It looks nothing like the certificate displayed on numerous sites. Why not the entire birth certificate with attending physician, parents addresses, occupations and ages at birth? When no effort is made to clear up such questions, it only fuels the doubts and conspiracy theories. Full disclosure would put this to bed forever, but it isn't forthcoming. It's so wrong not to provide the information that proves he is qualified to be president. Is this honesty and integrity? Not yet!

  I was born in Hawaii in 1946 and have a full official embossed stamped copy of my Certificate of Live Birth. Why has Obama not relased his full birth record? So easily done to remove all doubt and speculation of his birth origins, yet nothing is forthcoming. It only increases speculation on something to hide. So easily done. Yet it remains un-done. Not exactly honest and filled with integrity as we're to expect.
